Administrator Control Panel – the WEB-Сonsole for Management of Server Settings. Part 1

Important! The server platform should be configured by the qualified and educated specialists that have the appropriate powers. You should remember that all unqualified actions may affect the workability of the server platform.

Administrator Control Panel is the web-console for configuring the hardware and software modules of the server that have been previously chosen in the menu Configure Server Components. The web-console may be launched when the server software is in work, providing the detailed adjustment of the parameters for every component in the system.

The WEB-console may be launched locally at the server itself, by the command Administrator Control Panel at the blue icon of the Skylark loader in the Windows taskbar. If there's no activity from the user, the control panel that is functioning locally at the server, will automatically close in two minutes.

To change the configuration of the server platform, you should enter the control console as an administrator; the field for the value “Password” is blank by default.

For remote work with the console you should use the web-browser (it's desirable to use Google Chrome). You can activate the console from any machine in the network by the address http://server_ip:7901

Influence of Settings on the Current License

SL NEO server platform software is protected from copying and change of configurations: for example, if two playout SD channels are licensed, you can't add the third one or change the parameters to HD - the current license will become invalid. When the server is produced, at the end of configuring process of SL NEO server software, the producer generates the file with the license key, based on the codes, formed by the system (the Machine Code and the Config Code).

You should remember that adding new modules in the console Configure Server Components and their further adjustment in the Administrator Control Panel may lead to change of the Machine Code, Config Code and the current license will become invalid. The demo-mode will be automatically activated: the inscription SL NEO Media Platform http://skylark.tv will appear at the top part of the picture during playout and in the video series of the recorded files.

Before applying changes to the server configurations, you should consult the customer service and save the configuration files of the server. See here how to do this

Menu sections of the server control console

Status - allows the user to change the current status of the system, the I/O signals and streams at the inputs/outputs of the software modules, to implement some uncritical adjustments of the server software modules.

Manage - the main section of the control console, where you can implement the detailed adjustment of parameters of the server software modules.

License - displays the number of the current version of SL NEO software and the current license status for the server software. The initial information that may be requested by the producer (Skylark Technology) for generation of the license key, is displayed here: Machine CodeConfig Code, the number of I/O channels, recorders, Program Channel modules. See the details here.

Users - control by the users of the administrator console. The system supports two types of users: the user and the administrator. The administrator can implement any changes in the control console, the user can view all the settings without a possibility to change them. The section Users allows the user to set passwords for login to the console both for the user and for the administrator. See the details here.

Files - the section for remote unhurried uploading the media-files to the server (for example, files with logo, files with the emergency saver) from any machine in the network through the web-interface. See the details here.

Logs - the section for downloading the service log-files from the server as one archive file, for further sending to the developers. Every server module of the SL NEO platform forms technical (system) reports that contain detailed information about the module work. In the beginning of every twenty-four hours a new folder is created: all txt-files with reports from all of the server modules are placed in here. Deleting the files with reports is implemented automatically.

Quit - exit from the control console.

Section Status

The current status of the server platform is displayed right after login to the control console (the section Status). The functioning modules are displayed depending on the server's configuration: the modules for capturing signals from the server inputs (Capture), the recorders (Recorder), the modules for control of the playlist execution (Program Channel), the modules responsible for forming the signals/streams at the server outputs (Playout) etc.

Let's consider the typical variant of displaying the windows. Their types and quantity may vary, depending on the configuration of the SL NEO server.

web_console2.jpg

Capture – the windows of the server capture modules SL NEO AV/TS Capture that are responsible for the capture of audio/video signals from the input boards and interfaces. The icons display the input signals. If needed, you may set the value Audio Gain for the installing adjustment of the level of the input audio signal.

Recorder - the windows of the server modules for recording to files SL NEO File Recorder. If you want File Recorder to start receiving streams, you should switch the output of the appropriate module to the recorder's input: choose the item Input in the window Recorder, then choose Source Type=LIVE in the opened window. In most cases, the recorders inputs receive streams from the capture modules (Source Name=Capture_N), but you can send the stream from the service Program Channel (Source Name=Program_N) and provide recording the program formed by the server. In case of successful switching, the icon in the field Recorder will display the input stream.

The window Recorder contains the following settings:

TC Source – setting the source of the time code, or the source of time for the current recorder. Selection options: NONE, VITC (the vertical TS as a part of the input signal, allows providing the frame-by-frame accuracy when recording), VTR (the LTC code that is read off from the control VTR port), TIME (the system timer of the server). Setting the source allows the user to bind the input time values with the recorded materials.

Destination – choosing the default profile (the profile should be configured beforehand, see the description of the recorder's adjustments).

Program - windows of the modules for the control of executing the playlist SL NEO Program Player (automation services - Program Channel).

The window Program contains the following settings:

Background - setting the BG layer for working "on pass", when the playlist is stopped. If you want Program Player to start receiving the input stream, you should implement switching: choose the item Input in the appropriate field Background, choose Source Type=LIVE in the opened window. In most cases, the BG inputs receive the streams from the capture modules (Source Name=Capture_N). See the details here.

Format - setting the value of the aspect ratio for the frame of the formed program (16:9 or 4:3). The value Default conforms to the settings, implemented for the program channel in the section Manage of the console.

Conversion - setting the type of conversion for the materials with the aspect ratio that differs from the set value in the field FormatSee the details here.

The parameter None means that the initial material with any aspect ratio will be inserted into the output frame horizontally and vertically (the geometry won't be saved, if the value Aspect Ratio of the material and the settings of the Program Channel service don't coincide).

The type of conversion Crop means that the 4x3 material will be inserted into the 16x9 frame exactly horizontally, the sections from the top and the bottom will be cut off (the geometrical proportions won't be saved). The type of conversion Box means that the 4x3 material will be inserted into the 16x9 frame exactly vertically, the sections from the right and left sides will be filled with black bursts (the geometrical proportions will be saved).

The type of conversion Letter means that the 4x3 material will be inserted into the 16x9 frame in the following way: the sections from the top and the bottom will be cut off a bit, the sections from the right and left sides will be filled with black bursts, but less, than in the Box case (the geometrical proportions won't be saved).

Logo - the current status of displaying logo (on/off). Here you can check the modes of turning on/off the logo.

Logo Clip - the menu for choosing a file with logo for a current program channel. See the details here.

Playout – the windows of the server playout modules SL NEO AV/TS Player, that interact directly with the output boards/interfaces and are responsible for forming the audio/video signals and transport streams. The Playout modules also need switching: you should send the stream from the Program Channel modules to every input of the Playout modules. If switching is successful, the icons in the Playout windows will display the output signals, and the appropriate signals will appear at the server outputs.

If needed, you can send the stream from the capture service to the input of the Playout module and, for example, adjust encoding from the SDI input to IP, implement the up/down/cross conversion, or the aspect ratio conversion.

If needed, you can change the value Audio Gain for the installing adjustment of the audio signal level for every output channel.

Storage – the window displays activity of the service SL NEO Media Database that implements the function of the specialized content database. No additional settings are provided for the section Status.

GPI Board - if the module was activated in the menu Configure Server Components, the window displays activity of the server module for controlling the server functions by the HOT KEYS. See the details here.

The fields Actions allow the user to choose the command from the list and send it to the appropriate software module: for example, the command Set Marker for the recorder will create the key frame in the material during its recording process. You can view the detailed system of rules and commands for the SL NEO platform in here, the possibility of sending commands from the section Status is implemented for the unhurried tasks.

The fields “Crash Cnt” display the counters of "failures" for every software module. After the emergency completion of work, every module is automatically reloaded. The value that differs from 0 means that the module's work is unstable: you should check the correctness of its adjustments in the section Manage of the control console. One of the reasons of permanent reload of the Capture and Playout modules is incorrect installation of drivers for the I/O devices. In case of constant increasing of the counter's value, you should contact the customer support.
