Administrator Control Panel – the WEB-Сonsole for Management of Server Settings. Part 2

Section Manage

Manage - the main section of the control console, where you can implement the detailed adjustment of parameters of the server software modules. The section contains horizontally placed items, according to the hardware and software components chosen in the section Configure Server Components.

Tab Video I/O Boards

The first item of the section Manage is Video IO Boards, in which you can configure the capture and playout modules. The software modules of the SL NEO platform interact directly with the I/O boards/interfaces, installed in the system; the windows display the current settings, the number and types of channels supported by the devices: Genlock, Capture, Playout. The devices are sorted in the same order that has been used while choosing them in the section Configure Server Components.

The picture displays the variant of configuring the capture and playout modules for work with the board Matrox DSX.LE3/22 in configuration “2 inputs + 2 outputs”.

The window Genlock is used for activating the mode of external synchronization of the output devices. Changing settings is implemented by the button Edit placed next to the current mode (Black-Burst, PAL at the picture).

The window web_console4.jpgOutput 1 displays the current settings of the first output of the board Matrox DSX.LE3/22. Change of settings is implemented by the button Edit, next to the current mode (SDI/Embedded, 1080i50).

The opened window Configure Service allows the user to view and edit the current settings of the first output.

The mode Mode=Playout is set for the current channel, and it cannot be changed to the mode Capture, because it's not provided by the model of the board.

The item General allows choosing the output format of the video-signal and the type of the audio-signal. The parameter Keyer Mode=None is set for the mode of standard fullscreen playout. The mode Keyer Mode=External is used in case, when you need the server to form a couple of signals FILL+KEY. In this case, the second output (Output 2) of the board will be used for the KEY signal. This mode is possible only for certain models of the Matrox boards: DSX.SD, DSX.LE3/22 and DSX.LE/04.

If needed, you can increase or decrease the level of the output audio signal in the field Base Audio Level (the installing, unhurried adjustment into dB).

Activation of the item Preview turns on the function of permanent low-streaming IP-broadcasting of the signal of the current channel to the network. The network client application Multiscreen (the control multiscreen for I/O signals of SL NEO servers) serves as a receiver of the stream. Besides, the active mode Preview allows displaying the icon with video for the current channel in the section Status of the control web console.

The item Force Deinterlace allows users to avoid deinterlacing in the formed video. The CPU resource of the server is used for this process, so you should take it into account for HD channels and control the processor load.

The item Audio DRC allows the user to activate the built-in software audio-compressor/limiter and normalize the level of the output audio. See the details here.

The item Audio Channel Map allows distributing the output audio channels by the groups in the output SDI signal.

Similar adjustment of the parameters is available for the second output channel of the board (the window Output 2).

When editing is finished, you should save the implemented adjustments: press Apply Changes at the top part of the control console. The appropriate channel with changed parameters will be reloaded, playback will be stopped while reloading.

The algorithm of configuring the parameters of the output signals is the same for other types of output devices. See here an example of configuring the Ethernet-port of the server for encoding and forming the output transport stream UDP/RTP IP TS.

The window web_console5.jpgInput 1 displays the current settings of the first input of the Matrox DSX.LE3/22 board. Change of settings is implemented by the button Edit, next to the current mode. The window Configure Service allows the user to view and edit the capture channel settings.

In the section General you can choose from the list and install the format for the input video-signal, the parameters of resolution and frame frequency, the type of audio-signal, if needed, you may also adjust the input audio level.

The item Audio Channel Map allows you to implement switching the input audio channels, extracted from the groups of the input SDI signal.

In the item TC Source you can specify the source of the time code - particularly, you can activate the VITC decoding in case of its absence in the input signal.

The section VBI allows you to activate recording the information contained in the vertical blanking interval, for further analysis by the developers.

When editing is finished, you should save the implemented adjustments: press Apply Changes at the top part of the control console.

The algorithm of configuring the capture channels is the same for the other types of input devices. See here an example of configuring the Ethernet-port of the server for receiving the input transport streams UDP/RTP/RTSP IP TS.

Tab “Storages”

The item Storages allows the user to configure SL NEO Media Database, the server module that implements the function of the specialized database for the content stored at the server. Open the tab Storage Parameters and specify the path to the local disk that is physically connected to the server and to the folder that will store the media- and metadata.

The technology of work with the server database doesn't provide for the direct access of users to the current folder by using the Windows assets: all operations with the materials that are located in this folder, should be implemented only by the facilities of SL NEO client software (from the Media Browser and File Monitor windows of the News Cut and Air Manager applications).

SL NEO platform allows the simultaneous functioning of several SL NEO Media Database services at one server: for each of them you should set a path to the local disk at the server and the folder that will store the content.

Activation of the item Enable local admin privileges allows you to set the full access rights of the server and client modules that function locally at the server, to the content and the database service.

The server database module allows keeping attributes (metadata) for audio/video/graphic materials, providing users with a set of services for content management (search by attributes, key frames, setting the "lifetime”, etc.), implementing import of materials to the server storage and export from it, with or without recoding.

The key advantage of using SL NEO Media Database is using a single cached connection to the local server array, when all the record/playout operations and all network client requests are executed only through this connection. This way excludes necessity of using Net Bios Windows and all artifacts connected with using the SMB protocol and Shared-folders, necessity of connecting the "network disks": users work with "clips" (actually, with proxy-copies of materials, viewing and editing them), and not with the OS files. As a result, the load of network and disk arrays is essentially decreased.

The tab Volumes allows users to connect the module SL NEO Media Database to the local or network storages (NAS), index them, create the attributes (the text metadata) and then work with the media-materials through the database service, not using instruments of the file system.

The button Add in the section Volumes creates a new connection to the array. Find the field Name in the opened window and specify the random name for the storage, in future it will be displayed in the window Media Browser of the applications News Cut and Air Manager and will index the storage. The field ID displays the identifier of the storage, set by the system.

The item Create Proxy allows users to activate the process of generating proxy-copies (in the background mode) for all files that are stored at the connected array. The place for storing files with proxy is the local disk of the server and the folder specified in the settings of the item Storage Parameters (the subfolder Proxy/ID-identifier of the storage). Separate storing the proxy and full res- content allows you to request the materials through the server database in case, when the external array is turned off in any reasons.

There may be a few SL NEO Media Database services at one server, each service should refer to the original folder for storing media- and metadata. Adding new SL NEO Media Database modules is implemented when the server software is stopped, in the console for configuring the basic hardware and software components of SL NEO server - Configure Server ComponentsSee the details here.

When editing is finished, you should save the implemented adjustments: press Apply Changes at the top part of the control console.
