Section Manage, Item Recorders

The item Recorder in the control web console allows users to adjust the server recording modules File Recorder, configure administrating the VTR for batch recording from tapes, adjust the recording profiles for every recorder.

 

The setting window for the module SL NEO File Recorder, in its turn, contains a few items:

The item General contains fields for the basic settings of the module File Recorder. The fields Frame Rate, VTR address, VTR Number, VTR TC offset are used for adjusting control of the tape-recorder (VTR) when recording from tapes. The detailed description of the configuring procedure is here. 

 

The fields Filename Prefix, Filename Middle, Filename Suffix are used for forming the mask for file names when recording either into the server database, or to the file folders. In case of absence of the parameters in the current fields and in case if the file name isn't set by the user, the recorder automatically gives the name to the clip in the database (or to the file), in the following format: live_YY.MM.DD_HH.MM.SS.FF. If the values in the fields Filename Prefix, Middle, Suffix are set, names of the files/clips will be formed in the following way: Prefix_YY.MM.DD_Middle_HH.MM.SS.FF_Suffix. This function is actual in case of round-the-clock fragmented recording (for example, in the servers for control recording of the broadcast - loggers).

 

The fields Backup Recorder Address and Backup Recorder Channel are used for configuring the synchronous parallel record at the main and the backup SL NEO servers. The detailed description of the configuring procedure is here. 

 

The fields Router output pin and Router Layers are responsible for adjusting the parameters for control of the matrix switch, which outputs are connected to the server inputs. In the process of executing the recording events in the rec-list, the router can automatically "preselect" sources for recording. The detailed description of the configuring procedure is here. 

 

The item rec2.jpgDestination Profiles is used for creating and editing the recording profiles. The profile contains information about the video and audio codecs, the file container, the destination path for recording.

 

You can create several profiles for every recorder, each of them is used for certain tasks, for example: one profile is used for the direct recording to the server database and further on-air broadcasting, the second one is used for production (recording to the file folder).

Choice of the profile is implemented operatively from the list, directly at the client work places, in the window for controlling the rec-lists of the application Air Manager.

 

A new profile is created in the section Destination Profiles by the button Add. Find the field Profile Name in the opened window and enter a random name for the profile. Choose an appropriate parameter from the list in the field Video Format. The value set in the current field may not match to the value of resolution or frame frequency for the capture service, in this case the server will implement increasing, decreasing, or "cross" conversion. In the field Format Conversion choose the type of conversion in case of mismatch of the aspect ratio of the input stream and the aspect ratio that is required for the formed files.

 

An example of conversion for the case, when the input stream has the aspect ratio 16x9, the files should have the aspect ratio 4:3.

 

The parameter None means that the initial material 16x9 will be accurately inserted into the 4x3 frame horizontally and vertically (the geometry won't be saved, the picture will be compressed horizontally).

The type of conversion Crop means that the 16x9 material will be inserted into the 4x3 frame exactly vertically, the sections from the right and the left sides will be cut off (the geometrical proportions will be saved).

The type of conversion Box means that the 16x9 material will be inserted into the 4x3 frame exactly horizontally, the sections from the top and the bottom will be filled with black bursts (the geometrical proportions will be saved).

The type of conversion Letter means that the 16x9 material will be inserted into the 4x3 frame in the following way: the sections from the top and the bottom will be cut off a bit, the sections from the right and left sides will be filled with black bursts, but less, than in the Box case (the geometrical proportions will be saved too).

 

In the field Audio Channels you can define the number of tracks for the audio-track. The item Force Deinterlace allows users to avoid deinterlacing in the formed video. The CPU resource of the server is used for this process, so you should control the processor load, especially during multichannel recording. The item Write Timecode allows activating the function of recording the time code into the formed files. 

 

The item Storage is used for choosing the type of storage (the field Storage Type) and adjusting the basic parameters:

 

File Folder is a type of storage that is chosen for recording into the file folder. Disk Path is a path to the disk, you can specify the root folder here. Root Folder is a subfolder in the root folder, that will contain one more formed folder in the default format YY_MM_DD, or a folder specified in the rec-list line (it will store the files). In the field Container you should choose the type of container for all the files of the current profile.

 

SL NEO Media Storage is a type of storage, chosen for recording into the server database under control of SL NEO Media Database. In the field Storage Address you should specify the IP-address of the server, which has the activated service Media Database (in case of network recording). If the database service is activated on the server itself, you can leave the field Storage Address empty, or enter localhost.  In the field Storage Number, you should specify the number of the database service in case, if several modules SL NEO Media Database are functioning at the server. If needed, you can specify a folder in the server database (Root Folder) that will store the recorded materials. Login User, Login Password - are the fields for writing data about the user that has rights for recording into the server database. These fields are filled in case of network recording into the database of another server.

 

Avid/MXF, Avid/Unity are the types of storages for the Avid production systems.

 

The item Hi Res Format is used for configuring the encoding parameters for video and audio while recording for the given profile. The item Denoise allows activating the denoising mode for the video. 

 

The item Proxy Format allows the user to turn on the mode for generating viewing copies (proxy for the given profile while recording) and set the encoding parameters for video and audio. When choosing the type of storage File Folder, files with proxy-copies will be stored in a folder with the full res files.

 

The item Caption Extraction allows users to turn on the mode of decoding up to 4 caption tracks.

 

Adjustment of the profile is finished, we can return to the main items of the module Recorder.

 

The item Time Table Captures allows configuring the mode of automatic recording by the internal schedule of the server. As a rule, this mode is used during recording the on-air broadcasts in the so-called "loggers". The detailed description of the configuring procedure is here. 

 

To save the implemented settings of the recorder, press Apply Changes at the top part of the web-console interface.
