Adjustment of Receiving IP UDP/RTP Streams, Signals from Web-Cams, and Internet-Channels

This function is optional and is not active in the standard set of the server functions. You need additional licensing to activate the function. 

Configuring the capture of IP-streams and webcam streams is implemented in the following way: 

Step 1. Add a new device to the system: Ethernet Adaptor

SLNEOintray.jpgRight click on the blue icon SkyLark NeoVid in the task bar, choose Stop Server and stop the server components. After some time the icon will change its color to red. Right click on it and choose the item Configure Server Components. In the setting window find the item Ethernet Adaptor (it will receive the streams) in the field Available Components and add it to the right field. If you are also going to record streams, add one or several Recorder elements (according to the number of recording channels) and the element Storage, if the content will be managed by an integrated server DBMS. 



Step 2. Configuring SL NEO Server Software for Receiving IP-Streams

WebCastsettings.jpgFurther settings will be implemented from the control panel - Administrator Control Panel. Login to the console is implemented locally from the server, or from any machine in the network by the address http://server_ip:7901


You should login to the control console as an administrator. After login to the control console: In the left menu of the console click Manage, choose the tab Video IO Boards, click Add Service in the window Ethernet Port. In the appeared window choose Mode – Capture, in the section General set Video Input – Webcast, specify the address of the broadcast source in the item WebCast Parameters.



In the item Video IO Boards find the window Ethernet Port: you may configure it for receiving streams from several sources (there is no need to add new Ethernet Adaptor devices).




If the settings are adjusted correctly, the appropriate windows Capture of the section Status in the control console will display the received channels: 


UDP/RTP IP-streams (SPTS)

Adjustment of receiving one UDP/RTP SPTS stream is identical to the procedure described earlier, it is implemented from the control panel - Administrator Control Panel. After login to the control console:

·         Choose Manage from the left menu of the console.

·         Choose the tab Video IO Boards, click Add Service in the window Ethernet Port.

·         In the appeared window choose Mode – Capture, find the item General and set Video Input - MPEG2TS/IP. In the section Video Mode choose the format - the resolution parameters and frame frequency of the broadcast source.

·         In the item IP Parameters find the field Protocol and specify the protocol of the received broadcast. To receive unicast IP traffic, in the field Address specify the IP address and port of the machine, which is sending the stream. To receive multicast IP-traffic, enter in the field Address the IP address from the range - and the port. In the field  you should specify the physical IP address of the server network adapter that receives the multicast stream.

·         In the tab Mpeg2 TS Parameters you should specify the basic technical parameters of the SPTS-stream - without the specified settings, the parameters are defined automatically.

This completes adjustment of the basic parameters for receiving one stream: press Apply at the top part of the control console window to implement changes. If the settings are correct, the appropriate Capture window of the section Status in the control console will display the received channel. 


To configure receiving one more stream, find the field Ethernet Adaptor and choose Add Service again - implement settings according to the algorithm described earlier. You should consider that the stream SPTS #2 should have the port number that differs from the port number used by the stream #1. In case, if the input receives the multiplexed stream (MPTS), you should previously demultiplex it in the application Easy Muxer and form the needed number of one-program SPTS-streams with different ports. 


After the end of editing, you should press Apply in the upper section of the control console window, to save the implemented changes.

Step 3. In the server database, create a Live Clip that contains a link to the decoded Uncompressed stream

new_live_clip.jpgThe next step is creating the Live-clip in the server database. It is necessary for further using the decoded stream as a source in the on-air playlist or as a part of a graphic composition.


Creation of new clips is implemented in the application Air Manager. The command New/Local Stream in the right section of the window Media Browser allows the user to create a new clip containing a link not to a media file, but to the stream source.


In the field Video Mode you should choose the video standard, in the field Local Stream name enter the name of the capture service for the appropriate broadcasting source. You can find the name of the appropriate service Capture... in the field Status of the server control panel.


You should create a separate clip for every source. Created Live-clips may be used in a usual way (in playlists) and in graphic compositions. You can view the “image” of a Live-clip at the server itself, because the Live-streams are not displayed in client software. 

You can record streams

To do this, you should switch the appropriate streams from the capture modules (Capture...) to the inputs of the record modules (Recorder...). Switching is implemented in the fields Input of the windows Recorder..., in the server control panel (section Status). The uncompressed stream will be encoded again to the format chosen while configuring the recorder (section Manage, item Recorders).

Switching the streams to the server outputs

This function may be useful if you use the server as the TS decoder. For the hard “bind” of the input to the output, you should switch the output streams from the capture modules (Capture...) to the inputs of the playout modules (Playout...). Switching is implemented in the server control panel, menu section Status. In the window Playout... find the item Input and specify the source - the appropriate Capture... service. The uncompressed stream will be directed to the server output and, if needed, compressed to the necessary format according to the settings of the output device (menu section Manage, item Video IO Boards).
