How to Control Turning on/off the Graphic Layers?

The function of automatic control of turning on/off the display of a graphic layer from the main playlist may be useful, for example, during the playout of commercials. Configuring this function is implemented from the server control web console: menu section Manage, item Program Outputs. This function controls only displaying and doesn’t have any influence on the executing process of the appropriate graphic layer playlist.

Adjustment of the rule to turn off displaying the graphic layer

In the playout channel Program Output 1…N choose the section Actions, find the tab Playlist events and press Add Action

·         In the opened window enter the parameters of a new rule for the control of turning on/off the certain graphic layer from a column of the main playlist.

·         In the window Action Configuration find the field Name and enter a random name for the rule, for example: GR Layer 1 (L2) OFF for the first graphic layer/playlist.

·         In the field Layer choose “1” (the number of a program channel #1); in the field Address specify the server IP address, or leave the field empty (when the value is “localhost”).

·         Choose the service name by the button ... in the field Service. In our example, it is the playout channel No. 1 (Program_1 on the list).

·         By the button ... in the field Action choose from the list a command that turns off the layer (Hide Layer).

·         In the field Action Condition find the field Variable and specify a column of the main playlist that will implement turning off the layer, for example, “Keyer 2 mode”. Set the trigger as EQUAL, enter “off” into the field Value.

·         In the right window Action Parameters find the field Param1 and choose the number of the layer for management. The first layer is the main full screen layer, the second one is the first graphic layer, therefore, choose the second one for the control.

·         Press Apply Changes (at the top part of the server control console), to save the settings. Herewith, the playout channel with the changed configuration will be reloaded, playback of the current channel will be stopped while reloading.

Configuring the rule to turn on displaying the graphic layer

The procedure is implemented by the identical scheme. In the playout channel Program Output 1…N choose the section Actions, find the tab Playlist events and press Add Action

·         Enter the parameters for a new rule into the opened window (the procedure is identical to the previous one).

·         Choose the service name by the button ... in the field Service. In our example, it is the playout channel No. 1 (Program_1 on the list).

·         By the button ... in the field Action choose a command from the list that turns on the layer (Show Layer).

·         In the window Action Condition find the field Variable and specify the column of the main playlist that will implement turning on the layer - the same column Keyer 2 mode. Set the trigger as EQUAL, enter “on” into the field Value.

·         In the right field Action Parameters find the field Param1 and choose the number of the layer for management - for our example it’s the layer #2 that conforms the first graphic layer.

·         Press Apply Changes (at the top part of the server control console), to save the settings. Herewith, the playout channel with the changed configuration will be reloaded, playback of the given channel will be stopped while reloading.

Now control of turning on/off the display of the graphic layer #1 will be implemented from the column Keyer2 of the main playlist. Implement the same adjustments for managing the graphic layers of other playout program channels of the server and for every graphic layer/playlist respectively.

How to stop a ticker during the commercials broadcast?

Configuring the rule for the management of turning on/off a ticker is completely identical to the previous procedure, except one thing: instead of the commands “Show/Hide Layer” you should use the commands “Pause/Unpause”.

The command Pause stops current playout of the graphic playlist and the graphic clip respectively, and will turn off its displaying. The command Unpause will turn on displaying the layer and continue playback of the graphic clip from the place of its stop. You can check the workability of this function, if use the button Freeze in the Top-menu of Air Manager and select the appropriate window in the playlist of the graphic layer that you want to control.

Configuring the rule to implement the command “Pause”:

In the playout channel Program Output 1…N choose the section Actions, find the tab Playlist events and press Add Action

·         In the opened window enter the parameters of a new rule for implementing the command Pause for a graphic layer/clip from a column of the main playlist.

·         Find the field Name in the window Action Configuration and specify a random name for the rule: for example, “Crawl OFF” for the second graphic layer/playlist.

·         In the field Action press the button and choose a command Pause from the list.

·         In the field Action Condition find the field Variable and specify a column of the main playlist, that will implement the command - for example, Keyer 3 mode. Set the trigger as EQUAL, enter “off” into the field Value.

·         In the right window Action Parameters find the field Param1 and choose the number of the layer for management. The first layer is the main full screen layer, the second one is the first graphic layer. For example, tickers are displayed in the second graphic layer, therefore, choose number three.

·         Press Apply Changes (at the top part of the server control console), to save the settings.

By the analogy, create one more rule for implementing the command Unpause: in the window Action condition find the field Variable and specify a column of the main playlist that will implement the command – “Keyer 3 mode”. Set the trigger as “EQUAL”, enter “on” into the field Value, press Apply Changes.

Manual control of turning on/off layers and logo

The function of real-time manual control of turning on/off the display of graphic layers and a logo layer is available from the main playlist Broadcast window and doesn’t need additional configuring. The function is available for the graphic clips/compositions that form layers, and for the playlists that playback sequences of graphic clips. The function only controls displaying layers and doesn’t have any influence on the process of playlists executing. This option is available in the software versions 1.7.86 and higher.
