The Instruction for Configuring the Server Platform and Installing Windows and SL NEO Software from Scratch

·         Configure the RAID-array from the Bios RAID-controller. As a rule, RAID-10 or 5EE is chosen for that. Stripe Size: by default, Read Caching: Enable, Write Caching: Enable always.

·         Turn off Quiet Start, Hyper Trading (if the CPU type is E5-26XX, don’t turn off Hyper Trading), power-saving modes in the Bios motherboard; if SSD is used as a system disk, choose the ACHI mode for it.

·         Install Windows (7 or 2008 Server) 64-bit.

·         Turn off UAC, reload the machine.

·         Check and install the latest drivers for the motherboard, update Bios, if needed.

·         Install Windows updates.

·         Install the latest version of the RAID-controller driver (from the manufacturer website) and Storage Manager Software (for Adaptec controllers).

·         Plug in the logical drive Z: (RAID-array) in Windows, turn off the indexing function in the disk properties. 

·         Switch the Windows power mode to the high productivity, check the mode settings, prohibit switching off disks and the display.

·         Turn off power saving in the properties of the network adapter. 

·         Turn off the remote access and system protection in the computer properties; set up the operation speed parameters to the high productivity.

·         Turn off the scheduled disk defragmentation.

·         Turn off all the messages in the Support Center.

·         Remove all unnecessary programs from the autoload (Msconfig), turn off the services: Firewall, Windows Update, Windows Search. Reload the machine.

·         Turn off several Windows components at the control panel: media working components, tablet PC components, gadgets platform, XPC services.

·         Turn off automatic synchronization of time through the Internet (in the setting menu of Windows date and time).

·         Install the I/O boards and the appropriate drivers.

·         Use the profile with administrator rights and install SL NEO software. Look through the installing Wizard, configure the record/playout channels.

·         Launch SL NEO software, enter the control console and check the settings for channels and profiles.

·         Configure the client software at the server (Air Manager, Multi Screen).

·         Check the workability of every server channel, control the CPU load.

·         Activate Windows and the server and client software at the server itself. You can find detailed information about activation here.

Instruction for Windows and SL NEO software reinstallation at the server

·         Before you reinstall Windows it is necessary to save the current configuration of the server and client SL NEO software. The detailed instruction for saving the settings is by this link. If there’s no such a possibility, you should use configuration files saved before or configuration files from the flash-driver that is contained in the server delivery set (it includes the default settings for SL NEO server software). 

·         Install Windows (7 or 2008 Server) 64-bit.

·         Launch SL NEO software, enter the control console and check the settings for channels and profiles.

·         Check the workability of every server channel, control the CPU load.

·         After the end of installation save the configuration of SL NEO server and client software.

Preparing Windows OS, First Installation of SL NEO Client Software at the Workstation

Before installation of the client software, make sure that the server platform and the client PC are connected via network. It is not necessary to install extra codecs to the system: everything you need is contained in the setup file of the SL NEO platform software. Skylark SL NEO client software has been tested on Windows 7 32/64-bit - we recommend the given OS version for use. Stable work of the client applications on the other versions of Windows is not guaranteed.



The order of operations is the following:



·         Turn off UAC, reload the machine.

·         Make sure that the current user has the administrative rights and writing to the registry is allowed.

·         Check and install the latest drivers for the motherboard, update Bios, if needed.

·         Install Windows updates.

·         Switch the Windows power mode to the high productivity, check the mode settings, prohibit switching off disks and the display.

·         Turn off power saving in the properties of the network adapter. 

·         Turn off all the messages in the Support Center.

·         Remove all unnecessary programs from the autoload (Msconfig), turn off the services: Firewall, Windows Update, Windows Search. Reload the machine.

·         Turn off automatic synchronization of time through the Internet (in the setting menu of Windows date and time).

·         Using the user profile with the administrative rights, install the set of SL NEO software, pass the setup Wizard or configure the applications (Air Manager, News Cut, Multiscreen) manually. 

·         After the end of configuring check the connection of the client PC with the server, close and launch again the client software, make sure that its settings are saved after reloading.
