Media Servers SL NEO 7000 Series

HD/SD Multi-Channel Instant Replay and Slow Motion Servers

With television coverage of sports on the rise at the college, high school and even community level, the desire for a ‘broadcast-quality look’ in this coverage is creating demand for superior, but economical solutions. Viewers have become accustomed to the visual presentation they see in network broadcast and cable sports, and one key area of interest is for effects such as live instant replay with slow motion.

SkyLark Technology has responded to this desire by providing a broadcast-quality yet affordable instant replay solution with its SL NEO Instant Replay server - which is being employed worldwide by production companies, local broadcast and cable operators, venues, colleges and universities.

Up to 8-Channel HD Recording

Recording takes place on all channels, during the course of the entire sporting event, in parallel to playback of interesting moments and collections of stories.

Professional Jog/Shuttle/T-Bar Controller

Control of all server functions (and real-time editing) takes place locally with the use of a professional Controller through LAN/USB or with the use of SL NEO Client Software. The Controller features include professional transport buttons, choice of Sony or Panasonic Jog/Shuttle Wheel for convenient picture search operations, a high-quality T-Bar for slo-mo and shuttle operations, and fast access function keys.

Key Features and Benefits

  • Simultaneous and independent recording and playback, instantaneous switchover to slow playback mode, selection of playback input;
  • Smooth speed regulation, from 100% to frame-by-frame playback;
  • Real-time formatting and creation of a clip database;
  • Fast editing, collation, and playback of highlights;
  • Execution of playlists as a sequence of events for broadcast channels (ads, promos);
  • Automatic creation of proxy-copies of materials during recording or importing files;
  • Import of media files with various types of compression and file containers from external production systems to the server array;
  • Automatic background file transcoding during import if necessary; container exchange; sound level normalization;
  • Automatic generation of metadata describing the media materials when they arrive in the operational server archive being recorded or imported, with the option of manual or automatic metadata entry and editing. Metadata archiving in a specialized SL NEO server database;
  • Provision of network client stations with materials search services for metadata, as well as viewing and navigation services through low-definition copies for fast access to materials and editing purposes;
  • Editing and trimming of clips directly within the recording and broadcasting process; real-time editing of playlist lines while they are being executed; trimming of clips in playlist lines, directly within the event implementation process;
  • Export of media files to the SL NEO video server RAID in network work stations, to NLE, and to the archives;
  • Protected archiving of content (media data and metadata) in the form of media and database files on a redundant array of inexpensive disks (RAID);
  • Application of server backup schemes from N+1 to N+N for recording and broadcasting channels with synchronization of playlists from all channels, including graphic design.

Additional HD-SDI/HDMI MultiViewer Output

The  SL NEO server may be equipped with additional HD-SDI or HDMI outputs which can be used for monitoring of all server inputs/outputs on a HD-SDI monitor or flat panel with HDMI inputs.

This technology can be used as an alternative to a set of control monitors when working with the server and allows to reducing costs on the server environment: signal distribution and conversion, monitors etc.

MultiViewer output supports up to 12 of server's I/O channels. The output resolution is user defined and can be SD or HD. Built-in audio mixer allows to switching audio output to any of the input audio channels as well as mix a number of selected input channels.

The SL NEO Client Software bundle includes a graphic editor what allows to positioning on the screen windows for each of the input signals, add custom labels, clocks, logos, backgrounds and audio level meters. The user can define an arbitrary number of multiscreen compositions and switch them instantaneously by pressing HOT-Keys on the computer keyboard or GPI signals.

The MultiViewer output support HD and SD output in both 16:9 and 4:3 formats and is capable of simultaneous display of inputs of different formats and standards.

Integrated NLE Client

The very important feature of SL NEO 7000 server line is that when producing real-time materials and spots for television news broadcasts, the servers’ options allow non-linear editing at network work stations with the use of low-resolution proxy copies, but with no need in copying media files to the editing stations and back to the server.

The created editing solution can be put on the air instantaneously from the server without file copying and rendering, by means of using access to the server archives and proxy copies. The result of the edit is saved in the server’s database as a text XML description of the editing decision, and it is immediately accessible for broadcast.

NLE Client is similar in many ways to the function selection of standard NLE editors, including Adobe Premiere; it allows collecting complex, multi-track compositions on timeline, adding simple X/V or Mix/Wipe transitions and tying graphic layers (texts, on-screen graphics, backgrounds, videos with free-form transformations, and translucent animation), as well as changing to the broadcast speed and the implementation of Chroma Key and Voice Over functions. If necessary, the result of the editing may be rendered in a media file and saved on the network client’s work station or on the server itself.
