Adjustment of Automatic Switching Signals to the Server Inputs while Recording

SL NEO servers of 1000 and 3000 series allow users to automatically switch (preselect) signals from several sources to the record. Management of the matrix router is implemented directly while executing the rec-list of the recording channel. The signal sources are automatically switched to the certain output of the switcher which is connected to the server input, according to the events in the rec-list.


This function is optional and is not active in the standard set of the server functions. You need additional licensing to activate the function.

Step 1. Connection of the matrix switcher


You should connect the control port of the router to the server. The server has at least one control port RS-232 (COM1) that is placed at the back panel of the cabinet. If a router has a RS-422 control interface, you should use the interface converter or the board that has the appropriate ports. In some cases you may use Ethernet-interfaces for management. 


SL NEO platform supports protocols of controlling the switching equipment made by Harris/Leitch, Evertz, Network Electronicz/Nevion, BlackMagic Design etc.

Step 2. Stop the server software components, add a new device to the system.


By the right click on the blue icon SL NEO in the taskbar, choose Stop Server and stop the server components. When the icon becomes red, right click on it and choose the item Configure Server Components. In the setting window find the router model in the field Available components (section Device Server/Router buses) and add it to the right field.




Step 3. Launch SL NEO server software (the command Start Server on the icon in tray) and configure the service for management of external devices.


Further settings will be implemented from the control panel - Administrator Control Panel. Login to the console is implemented locally from the server, or from any machine in the network by the address http://ip of the server:7901. You should login to the control console as an administrator. After login to the control console: 


Router2.jpgChoose Manage from the left menu of the console. Find the tab Router Buses and choose Service Enabled in the window Router Bus 1.


In the field Connector choose the type of the control interface and the port number. Choose Add matrix in the field Matrixes.


In the field Name of a new window, enter the unique random Latin name for the matrix in the system (for example, router1) and choose the router dimension. You can leave the field Address with no changes, if the value is localhost. To save the settings, press Apply Changes at the top part of the server control console.


Step 4. Check the router management from the application RT Client. You can find more information about the process of configuring RT Client in the appropriate description.


Step 5. Set up router management from the record service


The settings will be also implemented from the server control panel - Administrator Control Panel. Choose Manage from the left menu of the console, and then choose the tab Recorder1.


Router3.jpgAt this stage it is necessary to configure the passage of commands from the recorder to the service for device management. Choose the tab General in the window Recorder 1 and find the field Router Layers.


Pressing Add will open a dialogue window: in the field Router Name enter the previously set unique name of the matrix in the system (router1 in our example), in the field Service Address specify the IP address of the server that has an activated service for router management. In our case, the service is launched at the server itself (localhost), that’s why you may leave the window empty. Leave the value “1” in the field Router Bus and press OK.


Find the field Router output pin in the tab General and enter the output number of the matrix router tied to the appropriate server input. 


You should perform similar settings for all of the record services. To save the implemented settings, you should press Apply Changes at the top part of the server control console window.


To implement switching, you should specify the number of the router input in the column Input pin of the rec-list. You can check the passage of commands to the router in the application RT Client.
