Overview

SL NEO Transfer Manager is an automated media ingest and transcoding system designed for television newsrooms and modern digital news publishers.

For TV news production, it helps solve one of the most common newsroom challenges: getting large volumes of incoming materials ready for the news bulletin as quickly as possible. Journalists, field crews, editors, and external contributors can deliver video files, mobile phone footage, drone recordings, social media clips, partner materials, and other media into watch folders or web-based upload workflows. Transfer Manager automatically copies, checks, transcodes, rewraps, and delivers these files into the required house format for further editorial use.

Unlike traditional FIFO-based processing, Transfer Manager gives newsroom teams full control over the processing queue. Editors and operators can see all active jobs, track file status, detect stalled or failed transfers, change priorities, place files on Hold, and move urgent stories ahead of background tasks. This allows breaking-news materials and time-critical reports to be processed faster and made available for editing or playout with minimal delay.

For digital media publishers and online news platforms, Transfer Manager simplifies the preparation of content for web publishing and social media distribution. It helps automate routine media conversion and delivery tasks, making it easier to prepare news videos for websites, apps, OTT platforms, and social channels while keeping the workflow transparent, controlled, and easy to manage.

Highlights

Flexible Queue Management

Manage complex media processing queues with full operational control. Each file can be assigned one of five priority levels, manually moved within the queue, reordered by drag-and-drop like in a playlist, processed in groups, and monitored through the Issue Panel for precise execution control.
Automated Watch Folder Workflows
Automate media intake from local and network folders, FTP locations, Avid Interplay, SL NEO Media DB, Stratus volumes, and other production sources. Transfer Manager continuously monitors selected locations and automatically starts processing when new or updated media appears.
Universal Format Processing
Process video and audio files from any source, including professional cameras, mobile phones, drones, social media, and external contributors. Transfer Manager automatically converts incoming materials to the required house format, including vertical videos and mixed-format mobile footage, making them ready for newsroom editing.
Transcoding, Rewrapping and Video Conversion
Convert media between codecs, formats, and containers, or rewrap files without re-encoding when only the container needs to be changed. The system supports interlaced and progressive formats, frame-rate conversion, resolution scaling, AFD-aware aspect-ratio handling, and SDR/HDR color-space conversion including BT.709, BT.2020, PQ, and HLG.
Edit-While-Transfer Workflows
When using SL NEO storage sources, editors can start working with NAS-based growing files while the content is still being transferred or transcoded. This helps reduce waiting time in fast-paced news and production environments.
Subtitle and Caption Processing
Extract, convert, embed, and preserve subtitles, captions, VBI, and ANC data across broadcast and file-based workflows. Supported formats include CEA-608/708, Teletext OP-42/47, SRT, STL, TTML, EBU-XML, ASS, and other subtitle standards.
Advanced Rendering and Timeline Processing
Go beyond standard file conversion with advanced rendering tools. Transfer Manager can segment media using timecodes, apply logos and watermarks, render NewsCut EDL timelines with PiP layouts, text overlays, color keying, and blur effects, and automatically adapt portrait video for horizontal delivery using background blur.
Multi-Destination Delivery
Deliver processed files simultaneously to multiple targets, including file systems, FTP servers, Avid Interplay, SL NEO servers, and other destinations. This allows one automated workflow to serve production, playout, archive, and distribution needs at the same time.
Dedicated Web Interfaces
Control and monitor Transfer Manager through role-specific web interfaces: Transfer Dashboard for video walls and newsroom monitors, Editor View for secure queue management by responsible editors, and Transfer View for watch folder operation without administrator access.

Workflows

Queue Management

Priority levels for each file in the queue, with manual repositioning and drag-and-drop control — just like managing a playlist.

Issues Panel for transfer completion control

The panel aggregates all errors, stalled tasks, and system events across all transcoding rules simultaneously. It includes smart filters and sorting.

Web Interfaces

Transfer Manager includes three role-specific web interfaces for different operational scenarios. Transfer Dashboard is a browser-based status display optimized for video walls and newsroom monitors, requiring no additional setup. Editor View is designed specifically for editors and operators, providing access only to assigned processing rules. Transfer View offers a secure web interface for deeper operational control of Transfer Manager, allowing users to work with queues and logs without access to engineering-level settings.

Integrated Ecosystem

Transfer Manager is fully integrated into the SL NEO Media Services Platform, enabling redundant, continuous synchronization between Main and Backup Servers — for both files and metadata.
Expand your workflow with additional SL NEO modules and a variety of storage technologies:

Newsroom
Automatically grabs, prepares, and converts incoming media for the newsroom rundown, making every file ready for editing, story production, and playout.
