Capture Adds Automatic Return to Preferred Source and Backup Source Monitoring

September 22, 2026

SkyLark has expanded its Cycle URL workflow with automatic return to a preferred source, improving resilience for IP, WebCast, and NDI capture channels.

A source in the Cycle URL list can now be designated as Preferred. If the preferred feed loses signal, the capture channel continues using its normal fallback sequence and switches to another available source.

While operating from a backup source, the preferred feed is monitored continuously in the background without interrupting the signal currently on air.

As soon as the preferred source has recovered and is delivering stable pictures again, the channel automatically switches back to it.

This provides both automatic failover and automatic failback, reducing the need for an operator to manually return a channel to its primary source after a temporary outage.

The preferred source can be configured from the capture status page, operator actions, scheduling and source-selection interfaces, or directly in source-list configuration.

The workflow is also integrated with SkyLark Multiscreen. When a channel is operating from any source other than its preferred one, Multiscreen raises a dedicated Backup Source alarm. The alarm clears automatically when the preferred source returns to air.

This allows monitoring operators to distinguish between a complete signal loss and a healthy channel currently operating on its backup feed.

The result is a more automated and transparent redundancy workflow for live IP contribution and broadcast capture systems.
