Instant Replay Adds Sony 9-Pin Control and Ross PIERO Integration

September 14, 2026

SkyLark has expanded its Instant Replay workflow with support for Sony 9-pin control, allowing external replay desks, edit controllers, automation systems, and analysis platforms to operate an Instant Replay channel through the familiar BVW-75 protocol.

The new integration allows systems such as Ross PIERO to control the replay recording tray using standard commands including Play, Stop, Jog, VAR, Shuttle, Fast Forward/Rewind, Cue, Preroll, and In/Out marking.

Additional replay-specific controls provide access to LIVE, TAKE, recording, preview/program selection, and camera switching. This allows an external controller to move between camera angles, cue material on the preview output, and take the selected replay to air.

Instant Replay program, preview, and individual camera outputs now also carry the recorder’s VITC/ATC timecode. This gives telestration and sports analysis systems a consistent time reference that can be used to identify and cue replay positions accurately.

The VTR control panel in AirManager and NewsCut has also been expanded with a variable-speed VAR control, recording functions, LIVE and TAKE buttons, replay mode selection, and camera controls when connected to an Instant Replay channel.

Communication with the VTR service now runs in the background, so a temporarily unavailable service no longer freezes the operator interface and is automatically retried.

With Sony 9-pin support, SkyLark Instant Replay can be integrated more easily into established sports production and analysis environments while preserving existing hardware controller and operator-panel workflows.
