SkyLark Adds Multi-Volume Archive Support for Flexible Storage Expansion

SkyLark has expanded its archive architecture with support for multiple archive volumes, making it easier to scale storage capacity without migrating previously archived content.

Previously, the archive was limited to a single destination. Administrators can now configure multiple archive locations side by side and mix different storage types, including filesystem folders, S3 storage, and tape-library-backed locations.

A new Active Volume setting determines which archive destination receives new jobs. When the current storage becomes full, an administrator can add another volume and make it active, while previously archived media remains available from its original location.

Each archive volume has its own identity and configuration, including its path or bucket, credentials, and unique volume ID.

To improve operational safety, SkyLark also introduces volume identity verification. Each archive location contains an identity marker that allows the system to verify that the configured volume matches the storage actually mounted at that location.

If a mismatch is detected — for example, if the wrong NAS, S3 location, or tape library is mounted — the affected archive volume is taken offline rather than being written to incorrectly.

Existing archive operations such as restore, media verification, archive-copy deletion, and garbage scanning work across all configured volumes. Each asset continues to be served from the volume where it was originally archived.

The previous single archive configuration remains supported as the default volume, so existing installations can be upgraded without migrating their archive content.

This makes the archive architecture more flexible for long-term growth, storage expansion, and mixed on-premises and cloud environments.
